“Sufi Squash! Why are you at the bottom of that Goblin Gloom Pit?”
“I didn’t sleep last night,” Sufi Squash sighed, “now I‘m grumpy.” Rainbow Spite nodded, Dilly Dragon appeared beside her.
“If I get a ladder you can climb up.” Rainbow said, looking around; Sufi Squash looked doubtful.
“I’ll try to climb back - but can’t you just throw a rope down, haul me out and make it all better?”
“Ok, what colour rope would you like?” Rainbow looked thoughtful.
“Rainbowy, like you. It needs to be pretty so I want to get out”
“Anything else?”
“N-no, just a good strong Rainbow Rope - oh, erm, make sure it won't break” Sufi Squeeze grumbled.
“You’ll have to tie it round you!”
“What if my knot undoes halfway?” Rainbow smiled and with her wishing wand made a big loop, like a lasso with a bow on. Rainbow threw the loop down and Sufi popped round her waist.
“Thank-you, but I don’t think you can do it,”
Just then Daisy and Dan drove up
“Hi guys, what’s happening?” Dan asked. Rainbow Sprite and Sufi Squeeze explained. Dan took hold of the Rainbow Rope and tied it round Daisy’s front bumper
“That tickles,” Daisy giggled, “do you want to count us in?”
“ONE, TWO...... THREE!!! PULL!!” Sufi Squeeze cried.
“Help us pull Sufi Squeeze out of the pit of gloom on my magical rainbow rope!” Rainbow Sprite shouted to all the woodland animals who had gathered to watch. Soon everyone was holding onto the rope or shouting encouragement.
“Come on Daisy pull,” Dan yelled, “I think something’s got her feet!”
“Oh no, it’s my gloomy goblin” Sufi Squeeze sighed, “it appeared when I was feeling sorry for myself and now it won’t go away, it makes me sad!”
“Knock it off!” Daisy advised her wheels squealing.
Rainbow Sprite was loosing her grip and Dan’s’’ hands were starting to hurt from the rope. “Don’t just hold the rope with one hand; Rainbow’s losing her grip too... AHHH” Sufi slid down a little.
“Urgh it’s green and slimy - hang on I can push it off from here!” Dan yelled. Trying to hold onto Daisy’s bumper and swinging his legs into the Goblins Gloom pit. He missed the Goblin and pulled him up quickly.
“Will you stop talking and PULL me up!”
“We are” Daisy said, gently rolling backwards until there was a tree in her way.
“If I tie a bungee rope around the tree I can go down and pull it off,” Dan ran to Daisy who opened her door helpfully and got things ready.
“Help me,” Sufi Squeeze squealed.
“Whee - bungee!” Dan shouted as he bounded into the hole.
“Stop messing and pull me up!” Sufi Squeeze shouted as Dan pushed at the Gloomy Goblin and grabbed her. The Elastic of the bungee rope started to shorten. “I’m losing my grip, I‘m going to fall” she squealed in his ear.
“Got you! I can see the bad thing holding you back: Ooogh that's uuuuuuugly!”
“Just get it off!” Sufi Squeeze shuddered; the Gloomy Goblin still had hold of her legs.
“What is it Dan?” Daisy called. She shone her lights down into the hole.
“Dilly Dragons holding onto me, I can get it with my wishing wand.” Rainbow said, leaning over into the hole. There was a little flash and the Gloomy Goblin Giggled and let go.
“Dan keep it off me!” Sufi Squeeze said. A bit too loudly Dan thought.
“Hurry up Dilly is ripping my dress,” Rainbow Sprite said, “Think I got it,”
“Right you hold me and the bungee will pull us both up” Dan said, letting go of the Rainbow Rope.
“Dilly you’ve got sharp teeth,” Rainbow Sprite said smoothing her tattered skirt, “never mind!”
“Sprite’s so damp, she nearly put my fire out! “ Dilly laughed steaming gently.
“Grab the edge - quick before we fly up into a tree!” Dan said urgently, holding Sufi Squeeze and the Rainbow rope, “oops too late here we go-o!”
“Whee!” Sufi Squeeze liked that “I’m afraid of heights!” she squealed in Dan’s’ other ear.
“It’s ok Sufi I’ve got you.” He shook his head trying to stop the ringing in his ears. They were going so fast it seemed as it the tree zoomed up and forwards to catch them neatly in its branches.
“Wow, is this a magic tree?” Dan asked as the tree tipped its branches so they slid gently towards the trunk.
“Could be,” Daisy said from below where she was pushing the tree gently sideways. Then she lifted her lid to make a slide for Dan and Sufi Squeeze, they landed inside on Daisy’s back seat, laughing and breathless.
“Ooh yeah, that was fun! Thanks Daisy!” Sufi giggled, “Thanks for all you have done everyone! “
“You’re very welcome,” Daisy smiled,
“We still have to fill in the pit of gloom, Dan pointed out
“No problems; we could fill it with Love,” Daisy said
“Hmmm, love and favourite toys - sounds better,” Dilly added
“Yes it does, “Rainbow smiled, looking at the Gloomy Goblin.
“On three then, count us is,” Daisy wriggled her badge which meant that magic was about to happen and everyone watched the hole gently filling up. The Gloomy Goblin looked at the love and all the toys he had dreamed of but had never had and gave a large whoop of joy, he was a Gleeful Goblin.
“Oh Dilly don't throw your best bone in, ah bless you!” Rainbow Sprite smiled at the happy dragon.
“Wow,” The Goblin did a somersault.
“I thought my love tank was almost empty,” Sufi Squeeze sighed
“We’ll have to fill Sufi’s love tank too,” Daisy said
“How?” Dan asked.
“Wait and see” Daisy smiled winking a headlight at Dan
“W-what if it comes back?” Sufi asked
“You can’t get back in there now we’ve filled it with love,” Daisy explained, “just remember that and you’ll be fine,”
“We’d pull you out of another one if we had to!” Rainbow Sprite smiled hugging Sufi Squeeze, who loved cuddles “Today will be better now!”
“That’s right,” Dilly Dragon said “we’ll call you every day!”
“Aww thanks!” Sufi said feeling very special indeed.
“You can keep the rainbow rope - tie a grapnel on it in case you ever need to throw it round a tree but that Gloomy Goblin’s gone now! Rainbow Sprite said. Daisy wrinkled her badge, and magic happened.
“If you need it to bungee, now it will,”
“Has that all made anyone else hungry, I’m starving! “ Sufi asked.
“Sufi, you’re always starving, “Dilly huffed gently, “but you feel good now, yeah?”
“Ever so!”
Daisy wriggled her badge and a lovely picnic appeared. Everyone ate lunch and even the now Gleeful Goblin who was no longer so ugly and slimy played games until teatime.
“Well, Sufi’s love tank seems pretty full now,” Dan said to Daisy
“Yes,” Daisy said as they slipped quietly away, leaving lot‘s of happy friends still picnicking.
